Peaceful, joyful, love-filled, blessings abound. These are not typical words I would associate with past mother’s days as we are a couple struggling with infertility, and yet, that’s how yesterday felt.
It all started with a marco-polo message the night before, cheering me on and sharing words of comfort in preparation for the following day. And then the notes of encouragement, understanding and shared pain began to flow on Mother’s Day. A friend loaded up her two little ones into her car just to bring over a surprise and cheer me up. The entire day was filled with that raw human connection that only loss, love and hope can bring together. And for all of this I have two words to say, “Thank you!”
Thank you to the people who share their infertility scars, bond with one another and are willing to admit that life is hard.
Thank you to the people who share their loss of a child, mourn together, and look for the day of reunion.
Thank you to the people who share their joy of expectancy with tenderness and thoughtfulness. I will forever treasure the moment when I opened a card in the mail to find a note saying “I’m pregnant but want you to have time to process so I sent this note instead. Let me know when you’re ready to talk.” Or the time I arrived home to find a pregnancy announcement accompanying a care package waiting on my doorstep. It was filled with bath salts and candles to soak away the heartache, a fuzzy blanket to hold onto hope, and a face mask to soothe the tear swollen cheeks.
Thank you to my amazing family who encourage us along every part of this journey. Thank you for accompanying me on the endless doctors visits. Thank you for every note, text, call and tear-filled conversation. Thank you for letting me cry on your couch at 1AM and for always being there for Simon and I. Thank you for the tears you’ve shed on our behalf and every prayer you pour out for us.
Today my heart is filled to overflowing with gratitude for the blessings we have been given in every moment someone has thought of us, mourned with us and loved us. I know I can never repay each one of you for your kindness but just know you are appreciated and loved by us. Thank you for giving us hope!
